Let’s face it! We all like to go out and dine at bistros. However many folks think that they should not dine out while dieting. Eating out at restaurants when dieting can be an impediment. Our culture is big on eating out for a number of reasons. We may need to for work, to celebrate holidays and birthdays, for pleasure, and convenience. It is a big part of our lives. This can be a scary thing for someone trying to diet!t is 1 of the biggest causes that folks fall off of their dieting wagon. It does not have to be that way. You can make better selections when eating out, and still have a wonderful time.

When you are dining out at a restaurant, you may find these tips helpful:
Don’t consume these:
*deep fried foods (anything battered and that goes into a bath of Trans fat oil)
*refined starchy foods (potatoes, rice, etc.)
*any juices, soda, or other sugary foods (whole fruit is great)

Do not even let your waiter bring that basket of bread to your table. Instead, while waiting for your order, sip on water with some lemon wedges in it. Many meals come with French fries, potatoes of some kind, pasta or rice. Ask the server to exchange with fruit or veggie’s. Substitutions are common at most restaurants these days, due to health issues, and restaurants are typically very obliging. If they will not, go to another restaurant.
Don’t expect encouragement from most of the people you dine with. These are typically your friends, family, or business associates.Without meaning to, they may try to sabotage your dieting attempts while out. Remarks such as “Just this once, cheat and have some”, or “live it up a bit”. These same folks will tell you that they have “tried everything” and “nothing works”. They have given up and remain overweight, and they want you to join them. If they feel that ‘living’ is having that cheesecake, maybe they need a hobby! Tell them to go rent the movie “Super Size Me”, and see if they change their mind.
Here are samples of substitutions that will assist you make better choices:
Instead of eating this:
Burger or sandwich
Chips or fries
Soda or other sweetened drink
A better option would be:
Burger or sandwich (you can even ask for no bun, and have it wrapped in lettuce)
Salad or veggie’s
Ice tea or water.
You will save yourself 400-900 calories every time you dine out! These healthful choices also cut out the harmful foods many people will select (Trans fat and high fructose corn syrup).
So go out and enjoy all the fun of dining out. You will not feel deprived, so you will continue to lose weight. Don’t feel quilty-go to your favorite restaurant!
